ChatGPT has finally launched a Pro plan for $100 per month

“OpenAI has officially launched a highly anticipated $100 monthly subscription tier, addressing long-standing requests from power users. This new offering joins an existing pricing structure that includes: a free tier (ad-supported), an $8/month ‘Go’ plan (also ad-supported), a $20/month ‘Plus’ subscription (ad-free), and the premium $200/month ‘Pro’ plan (ad-free).”

“Although OpenAI’s pricing page currently omits the $200/month option, the company has confirmed to TechCrunch that this top-tier plan remains available.”

According to the developer, both the $20 monthly Plus plan and the newly launched $100 Pro tier are specifically designed for everyday use of ChatGPT’s coding tool Codex. The Pro plan offers five times more usage than the Plus subscription.

OpenAI has made it clear that this new pricing tier is designed to challenge Anthropic, which has long had a $100 per month option for its cloud service.

“An OpenAI representative explained to TechCrunch that the $100 Pro tier is tailored for developers requiring substantial coding capacity during demanding work sessions. They further noted that, when comparing paid subscriptions, Codex offers superior coding capacity per dollar than Claude Code, a distinction that becomes particularly apparent during high-intensity development tasks.”

“It is important to note that OpenAI is offering increased Codex limits on the $100 plan through May 31. Users who subscribe to this new tier and experience high-volume coding without encountering rate warnings should be aware that these generous limits are temporary and are expected to change once the promotional period ends.”

“Usage is capped across all subscription tiers, though the $200 plan provides 20 times the capacity of the Plus plan. OpenAI’s FAQ states that this tier is designed to handle ‘your most demanding workflows continuously, even across parallel projects.’ While both Pro plans share identical core features, the company notes that rate limits remain the primary distinction between them.”

According to the spokesperson, Codex is currently serving more than 3 million users worldwide per week—five times more than three months ago—and its monthly growth is over 70%.
