Salesforce introduces thirty new AI-powered features in a major artificial intelligence overhaul for Slack

At a San Francisco event on Tuesday, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff showcased the company’s AI-centric business transformation by unveiling a revamped Slack. This update introduces a wide array of AI enhancements, headlined by a major evolution of its automated assistant, Slackbot.

Following a January update that empowered Slackbot with agentic tools—such as email drafting and meeting scheduling—Salesforce will roll out thirty additional features over the next few months to further enhance inbox management.

The standout feature unveiled on Tuesday is what the company refers to as “reusable AI-skills.” This functionality empowers users to program Slackbot with specific tasks that can be deployed across a wide range of scenarios. According to Salesforce, the platform includes a pre-installed library of these skills, though users are also free to develop and implement their own custom versions.

Once configured, these skills drastically minimize manual labor for employees. For instance, a simple command like “create a budget” allows Slackbot to aggregate relevant data from Slack channels and integrated applications to form a comprehensive plan. Furthermore, the bot can automatically schedule a meeting to review the proposal, inviting the appropriate team members based on their professional roles.

Slackbot now operates as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) client, enabling seamless connectivity and coordination with external services. A key integration is with Agentforce, Salesforce’s 2024-launched AI agent development platform. This connectivity allows Slackbot to autonomously route tasks or inquiries to Agentforce—or any enterprise application—effectively identifying the most efficient workflow for data resolution without requiring manual oversight.

According to Rob Seaman, EVP and GM of Slack, Slackbot has expanded its capabilities to include meeting transcription and summarization. This feature serves as a valuable resource for participants who may miss key details during a discussion, allowing them to request a comprehensive recap that specifically highlights their assigned action items.

Beyond the Slack environment, the agent now possesses the capability to monitor desktop activities, pulling from data points such as active deals, communication history, calendar schedules, and user habits. Leveraging this context, the bot generates proactive suggestions and drafts follow-up actions for critical tasks. According to Seaman, privacy and security are foundational to this design, ensuring users retain full control over their data permissions.

In essence, Salesforce is actively shifting Slack’s identity from a standard communication tool to a robust, multifunctional platform capable of managing diverse business operations. The strategy is clear: by embedding advanced AI across the ecosystem, the company aims to make Slack an indispensable component of everyday enterprise workflows. During Tuesday’s keynote, Benioff let his team demonstrate the latest platform features, though he also took the opportunity to reflect on the five-year anniversary of Salesforce’s acquisition of Slack. He described the period as an “incredible journey” that has driven 2.5 times revenue growth, proudly noting that Slack now serves approximately one million businesses, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion.
